Holiday Splurge Diet

As you prepare for another season of holiday dinners and parties, plan now to get through it in a healthy way. K.C. Craichy, Founder & CEO of Living Fuel, and his wife Monica, share great tips about how to enjoy the holidays without gaining weight and without hurting your health.   1. Now is the time to prepare your body for all the holiday foods to come
  2. Plan how you will deal with the feasts and parties to come ... think about your holiday "trigger" foods ahead of time and that will help you recognize and deal with them in a healthy way
  3. Be physically active every day and continue with your exercise program through the holidays ... exercise will help with fat burning and handling the added stress holidays can bring into your life
  4. Drink water throughout the day ... that's important for hydration and also helps you feel full and not be as hungry
  5. Do a Living Fuel Fast leading into the holiday: replace 2 or 3 meals a day with a SuperFood Smoothie
  6. Eat something healthy before the holiday feast (i.e. SuperFood Smoothie, protein shake with fiber)
  7. Minimize carbohydrates and sugars in your diet (high sugar intake can triple the body's inflammatory response)
  8. Take fish oil, polyphenols and curry to help keep your blood running thin
  9. Decrease the number of sugary drinks you have each day (i.e. juice, sports drinks, alcoholic beverages) ... that will allow you to have a small portion of your favorite dessert instead
  10. Separate your meals by 4-6 hours and stop eating at least 3 hours before going to bed
  11. Don't skip meals to save on calories for the holiday feast ... it will lead you to overeat during the holiday meal
  12. Eat normal size servings
  13. Eat salads, vegetables and proteins before choosing your dessert
  14. Cut your dessert size in half ... that way you enjoy the taste without adding too many calories and extra sugar
  15. Place food, desserts and snacks on a plate ... that will help you "see" how much you're eating
  16. Don't add salt to your food ... excessive sodium can cause fluid retention in your body
  17. Chew your food well ... it helps with digestion and keeps you from overeating
  18. Don't graze ... be careful about "recreational" eating when you're surrounded with lots of food, drinks and sweets ... stick to your plan!
  19. Don't stand too close to food and snacks as you socialize ... that will help you from overeating
  20. Enjoy family and friends ... that's the real blessing of the holiday season!
